With 200 meters to go, it was Wayt in the lead with Smith trailing close behind. Adkins was on the move and had just moved past Moran into 3rd. Hesson was in a solid 5th, and Carr remained in 6th. Adkins continued her move and swung to the outside and into the lead coming out of the turn. Tucker just got by Doddridge late to take the 2nd spot, 1:10.36 to 1:10.62. Trinity was the only other team under 1:12 with their 1:11.43. One of my predicted placers got disqualified.

Long Jump
In a contest that saw the top 3 save their best for last, Doddridge's Jonna Ferrell won the title with a final leap of 16'11.25. Her jump had been immediately preceded by Trinity's Reagan Sharp's leap of 16'6. Her leap was almost immediately preceded by Doddriddge's McKenzie Newton's leap of 16'4.50. So, heading into the 6th and final jump Ferrell had the lead. Then Newton took the lead. Then Sharp took the lead. Then Ferrell took it back on the final jump of the competition. Wheeling Central's Marisa Horan also had her top leap on her final jump with a leap of 16'2 to take 4th. One of my predicted placers scratched from the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 78 of 96.

Shot Put
Gilmer's Sada Wright repeated as champion, but unlike last year, this year, it wasn't close. Her final toss of 38'6.25 was just over 3' further than anyone else. Williamstown's Beth Arnold moved into 2nd on her final throw of 35'6. Magnolia's Mady Winters was 3rd with a toss of 35'4. 4th through 6th were separated by just 5 inches with Charleston Catholic's Colleen O'Leary taking 4th with a 33'9.75, Cameron's Kelsie Meintel in 5th with a 33'6.25, and Tucker's Carleigh Bolyard took the final spot with a 33'4.75.
RunWV's Current Score: 83 of 102.

Discus
Gilmer's Sada Wright repeated as champion in the discus as well and did so emphatically, again hitting her top throw on her final attempt. Her toss of 137'9 won the event by over 30' and set a State Meet Record and stands as the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Madonna's Kennedy Martin took 2nd with a throw of 106'8. Wirt's Alexis Petrovsky was 3rd with a 103'11. 4th through 6th were separated by just 5" with Magnolia's Kyndra Pilant in 4th with a 101'4, Williamstown's Elizabeth Newton 5th with a 101'0, and Doddridge's Ashlyn Ross 6th with a 100'11.
RunWV's Current Score: 87 of 108.

The final score of 87 of 108 means that 80.6% of the people picked to place did indeed place, a pretty mediocre showing. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
